Dr. Donald F. StaffoDr. Donald F. Staffo has been a sports journalist for 40-plus years. He is the author of 10 books and more than 2,150 articles that have been published in a variety of national, regional, and local publications. He covered Alabama football and basketball for the Associated Press for 30 years and was a newspaper columnist for more than 20 years.
He retired as professor and department chair emeritus after a 50-year career as an educator. He is the 2nd person and the only living person to receive the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance’s 3 highest national awards and be inducted into the National Association of Sport and Physical Education Hall of Fame. The recipient of 5 national, 8 state, 6 distinguished alumni, 2 regional, and 11 institutional/ local awards, he has received the highest awards from 4 of his 5 alma maters and has been inducted into 5 halls of fame, including NASPE, The Ohio State University College of Education and Human Ecology Hall of Fame, the SUNY Brockport Hall of Heritage, and the Greater Utica (NY) Sports Hall of Fame. He received citations from the US Congress, the Alabama House of Representatives (2), the Alabama Senate, the New York State Assembly (2), and the New York State Senate (2). He is the only person to be awarded the title professor and department chair emeritus in the 142-year history of Stillman College. He earned his Ph.D. from The Ohio State University, M.A. from Western Kentucky University and his B.S. from the SUNY at Brockport. |
